چکیده

Tunable coplanar waveguide stub resonators deposited on various ferroelectric/dielectric heterostructures are studied in the 10-GHz band. A frequency tunability up to 45% is achieved under a moderate biasing field (Ebias < 100 kV/cm) when the resonator is printed on KTa0.5Nb0.5O3 (KTN) ferroelectric thin film alone: this comes from the large permittivity agility of the KTN material (r(KTN) varies from 700 to 200). Nevertheless this also leads to significant insertion loss due to the dielectric loss of the ferroelectric material itself (tanr(KTN)≈ 0.15-0.30 at 10 GHz). In this paper, an original route has been considered to reduce the device loss while keeping up a high frequency tunability. It consists in associating the KTN film with a dielectric film to elaborate ferroelectric/dielectric multilayers. The * Corresponding author. Tel.: +33 2 96 60 96 53; fax: +33 2 96 60 96 52. Loss reduction technique in ferroelectric tunable devices by laser micro-etching. Application to a CPW stub resonator in X-band

Ferroelectric materials are known to be lossy at microwaves. A local microetching technique based on laser ablation is implemented here to reduce the insertion loss of highly tunable devices fabricated on KTa1−xNbxO3 (KTN) ferroelectric thin films. The relevance of this approach is studied in X-band by comparing numerically and experimentally the performance of a frequency-tunable coplanar wave...

Compositionally graded ferroelectric multilayers for frequency agile tunable devices

Recently, there has been significant interest toward the development of tunable dielectric materials for voltage-controlled, frequency-agile phase shifters and filters operating in the microwave regime. The fundamental challenge in designing materials systems for such tunable devices is the simultaneous requirement of high dielectric tunability ([40%) over a large temperature interval (-10 C to...

Numerical Modeling and Experimental Study of Probe-Fed Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA) Supported by Finite Circular Ground Plane

Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs) have received increased interest in recent years for their potential applications in microwave and millimeter wave communication systems. DRAs are normally used with the support of a ground plane. The radiation and impedance properties therefore depend not only on their physical dimensions and dielectric properties, but also on the size of the ground plane. ...

Dual-tunable hybrid wave ferrite-ferroelectric microwave resonator

A novel electric and magnetic field tunable microwave resonator with a yttrium iron garnet and barium strontium titanate layered structure is investigated. The measured characteristics at 3.6 GHz, corresponding to the proximity of magnetic and dielectric resonance modes, show a broadband electrical tunability. A tuning range of 1.5% of the central resonance frequency is obtained for nominal ele...
